today i upgrade to CD/DVD RW drive (on ibm ThinkPad T21 2647 4AU, but i can read only CDs but not DVDs, drive is from ebay

Have you read/tried the Lenovo/IBM troubleshooting page?
Troubleshooting CD and DVD drive issues

Also, try downloading Nero InfoTool or DVD InfoPro to make sure your drive can do what you think it can:
