A31 THINKPAD PC CARD SLOT ACTIVATION

GOT A USED A31 THINK PAD TYPE 2653 MODEL PU6 OS WIN XP

Have problem recognising the PCMCIA wireless cards
Tried couple of them on this machine none of them are recognized

Thinkpad configuration tool the PC slot seems to be disabled and when i select it it displays the dvd/cd drive details.

Tried installing the drivers for the card
under Device manager --> Network adapter--> wireless Lan card
it shows a " !" saying could not start "code 10"


Should we enable this PC card slot explicitly
How can i enable the PC card slot to read PC cards?
