T40p 2373-G1U Problems reading DVD-R and DVD+R
this machine has the combo DVD-ROM/CDRW drive in it. I find that I can't read DVD-R or DVD+R disks but can read CD/CDRW just fine.
Were these formats not supported in the original version of this drive? I see the currently shipping drive supports these.
Thanks,
Chris

I have the exact same model as you, and I had the same problem a few months back (It sounds like it is the same problem) - I thought my DVD/CD-RW was broken, but it was not.ChrisKinsman wrote:this machine has the combo DVD-ROM/CDRW drive in it. I called IBM tech support and the tech guy suggested to de-install the IBM RW recording program - I can't remember what the name was, however, the program was used to grab files and copy directly into the CD-RW disc, via windows Explorer.
Windows XP comes with that functionality already, and there was a "conflict" - As soon as got rid of the IBM program, I could watch DVDs again...What the problem was, I don't know, but it works now

I have the same problem!
T40p with a 755 dvd/CDRW.
I am using double sided DVD-10s (9.3GB) and I thought that would be the problem first but NO!
It is not the IBM RECORD NOW what you have to uninstall but the IBM DLA which is responsible the drag and drop recording on CDRW media. Record now works just fine. DLA is not something many people use anyway... doesn't make much sense if you ask me. After uninstalling DLA the drive works fine. This 755 drive is from 2004 february and I have the latest controllers, BIOS and XP SP2.
