How can I boot slave HDD from Ultrabay HDD Adapter (R52)?

#1 Post by indessen » Fri Oct 27, 2006 9:00 am

Hello,

anyone know how I can book from the Ultrabay slim HDD-Adapter when the harddisk is set to "slave" (Thinkpad R52)?

Even when I book from my fixed harddrive running XP and have an entry in my boot.ini it doesn't work:

boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft 2000 Professional"
/fastdetect

I get an error message saying there is a problem with the hdd-configuration.
When I put a HDD set to slave in the adapter, all works fine. Problem is, I cant set the particular drive I want to put in the adapter to master, as it would need a jumper and then it doesn fit.

Any clues?

Thanks.

Try this: Grab a stapler, take out one staple, bend to fit, trim excess off. Instant jumper :)

Why can't you just use the BIOS settings to select which drive you want to boot from?

That's how I do it. No jumpers needed. On an A30 or A31, you can even put in three drives and select which to boot from.

tried something like that with copperwire, drive boots but very slowly and then hangs, no idea why...

the problem is, that it wont boot if that particular drive in the adapter is set to slave...
