Is this as good a deal as it appears?

#1 Post by jcwCT » Fri Oct 27, 2006 1:54 pm

The "Lenovo Outlet" is offering new T43p models at what appear to be VERY good prices... in particular the 2668PDU at the bottom of the page for a 60% discount.

Is this as good a deal as it appears? Or, are these models to be avoided? I've read the posts on this forum regarding fan noise and the machines getting too hot to keep in your lap. Are these problems widespread? Are there other problems with the quality, design or performance of the these machines.

Thanks for any feedback.

It sounds cool.
Can you give the URL where the offer is?

I do not own a T43p but I would recommend you to get that system.
There are some treatments for the fan noise & heat:

1. Replace thermal compounds on the CPU/GPU with Arctic Silver 5
2. Undervolt the CPU speed
3. Regulate the fan speed using TPFanControl

I encourage you to grab one of those if you can.

Anyone know why theses offer aren't available world wide?

I would buy it in a heart beat if it was available near me...

That is an amazing deal on an amazing machine. Anybody who is shopping around for a computer right now but doesn't need the absolute "latest and greatest" (Core 2 Duo) but still desires quality would be foolish to pass this deal up.

Even though it comes from the "Outlet," it's brand new from IBM/Lenovo and carries the full 3-year warranty.

For some reason I cannot load the page.

Does Lenovo block access to their sites upon the person's computer IP??

That link should work, I just checked it again; Lenovo doesn't block IPs from other countries to look at deals anywhere on their site to my knowledge. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Can you please indicate why it's such an amazing deal?

I got a quote on a base T60 for around $1300. How is this a lot better?

Thanks for any info.

It would help if you listed what you have on your base T60.

This specs on this T43p are (with some of the "better" features highlighted):

The 15" T43p deal of a few weeks ago was in my opinion a better deal as the 15" included the 1600x1200 IPS screen for $1499.00 US. The processor was only a 2.0Ghz model but I don't think I could tell the difference between 2.26Ghz and 2.0Ghz in actual use.
