New Area with Upgrade Tables for Models
I'm thinking that an area containing tables with successful (and unsuccessful) upgrade options for various TP models. People routinely ask about CPU, fan, wifi, and Bluetooth upgrade options for many models.
Right now I'm working through an issue with my T40 - apparently not all Dothans will work as an upgrade - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=32165
For instance;
Model Submodel Item Successful
T40 All Dothan CPU w/B stepping YES
T40 All Dothan CPU w/C stepping SOME
T40 All Bluetooth II or Bluetooth III YES
T40 All PC2700 sodimm YES

Prime material to also go into the Hardware Engineering section of the TP Book; have any tips or info to the relevant content?

I am happy to help. I am not sure how the table gets created or stored, perhaps there is a feature or easy method with this board. Certainly an HTML table would work, but something more sophisticated would be nice too.
Anyway, I do have a few (or more) different models and I don't mind tweaking and testing, so I can contribute results. I have a feeling that many others would like to as well.
I think many people find their way to this board for the helpful upgrade and tweaking tips, but it does take quite a bit of searching to find specifics. I think tables could help a lot.
For instance, I recently posted a question about upgrading a Celeron R52 to a Pentium M. There are no threads on this (that I can find), but the answer will probably help many future visitors.
Check the upgrade table (assuming it becomes popular) and you've got an answer from someone with experience. Also, room for comments would be great (like, although the HMM suggests removing the keyboard bezel and LCD assembly for CPU removal, I only had to remove the keyboard and hold the fan up a few millimeters to slide the CPU out - be careful).
If we can figure out the table template, I think it would get populated with good info rather quickly.

Re: New Area with Upgrade Tables for Models
Did this ever eventuate? I've just been messing around with my motley collection of R40s and R51s and found this thread linked from another.... It's a great idea. Cheers.
Shaun.
