Z61m doesn't change into standby mode

#1 Post by thoepfner » Sun Oct 29, 2006 5:51 am

Hi,

my new Thinkpad z61m (9450-3HG) doesn't change into standby mode. He waiting for something but i don't know for what :).

After 3 hours he will turn off while the battery is empty. Windows display a message box "windows will go in standby mode". I've only one chance: I press the On/Off button for 5 seconds.

My Installation is an new WindowsXP Prof with all Drivers, installed with Software Installer from Lenovo.

Have anyone a good idea?

Thanks, Torsten

Since it is new, I suggest doing a complete format and reinstallation of Windows.

Standby has always been a tricky beast, since touchpads and trackpoints can send false signals, and wake up the device. You might want to go into the system settings and turn off the "allow this device to take the computer out of standby" option.

Hi, I have the same problem mentioned by thoepfner. But, mine is a still worser. I can either shut down my computer nor bring my computer to standby mode.

I have reinstalled WinXP prof and all ibm drivers. But, I still have the same problem. It happens even if wireless LAN and bluetooth are switched off.

Does anybody have any suggestion to it?

My solution was: Bring the thinkpad back and buy a macbook pro. Now, i doesn't have problems :)

Z61m shutdown/hibernate/standby problem

#8 Post by sjoerd » Thu Dec 21, 2006 3:32 pm

We have a identical problem the laptop freezes at the final shutdown stage, after the "windows is shutting down" has disappeared. reinstalled many times. our suspect is a buggy sata controller driver, or the intel chipset driver, we disabled all devices in the BIOS and tried again.
I interesting point, when I switched in the bios from ACPI to conventional, afetr windows booted it installed the driver and did a proper restart. Tomorrow on the Lenovo supportline :(
