Add bluetooth to z60t?

#1 Post by zhenya » Sun Oct 29, 2006 6:52 am

Has anyone added bluetooth to their z60t that was otherwise missing it from the factory? Where do you get the parts, and how difficult is it to install? TIA.

Thanks so much for the tip. I finally got around to doing this today. Part was $32 from IBM. Installation was fairly straightforward as well. Although it seems to me that the installation instructions in the hardware maintenance manual go a bit overboard. You certainly do not need to remove any of the daughter cards or the lcd itself. It may even be possible to do this without removing anything other than the lcd bezel. Also note that the bluetooth card is secured in place by an M2 x 5mm screw that is not included. You may also want to get some replacement screw covers for the lcd bezel, although I was able to remove mine with minimum marking.

You mentioned about being able to remove screw covers with minimum marking -- could you please mention the technique you used?

Thanks in advance!

Use a sharp knife tip, such as an X-Acto knife, to pry the covers off. Store them on a piece of wax paper while you're working, they'll stay put but be easily removed.

Don't know which particular one that is, but they're widely available for $10 to $15. Just Google bluetooth dongle.

I finally got it installed internally.. it's so cool.. now i dont have to deal with the external usb/dongles :o)

It seemed a little daunting when I tried to get open LCD Assembly..now I will have to agree.. its pretty simple.

...now I have to go find a small screw that was missing from the item they sent
