Replacing fan on T22

#1 Post by rwahi » Mon Oct 30, 2006 1:39 am

Hi,

My t22 works remarkably well considering it is 5 years old, however it does seem to be rather noisy. I'm not sure if it is the fan that I can hear wirring or something else. But the noise is always there from startup, and occasionally I feel warm air out of the vent so i'm not convinced it is just the fan ? Is this normal ? My friend has a t43 and it is way quieter !

I'm not that knowledgeable about the hardware, so does every t22 have the same issue ? Can it be fixed?

Any help would be greatly received :)

Thanks

Depending on what type of noise it is, it may just be the HD. Take it out and boot into BIOS. See if the noise is still there.

Also, sometimes cleaning the fan helps reduce noise. Dust and grime build up to increase friction.

Thanks guys,

I took the hard drive out and the machine was quiet !!! It's definately a noisy HD (so much for my fan theory !).

Any suggestions of where I can buy a cheap compatible HD and what sort I should go for ?

The little research I have done points me to "Seagate Momentus hard drive - 40 GB - ATA-100", but I'd much rather go on a recommendation.

The Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 is generally well thought of (unless you have the need to go to 7200RPM). I'm using one now in the T23.
