Standby on its own........T60p
Sometimes my machine is on, and i have used it in the last 10 min, and it goes into standby on its own. Any thoughts? I checked the power settings, and they are all set correctly. Running Max Performace, with Standby set to never. All drivers and bios are current.

Stanby....
Only thing i have done is update my fresh factory image. This was happening sometimes a few weeks ago. I sent my laptop into IBM and they replaced some part of the screen. Obviously not the problem, and now have replaced both RAM chips.
1)Why did you replace both ram chip ? Because of the lock up issue ?
2)Did you try to logon with a another user account, like administrator (admin)? Is you TP going to stand by then?
Maybe the energy manager is faulty in your user account...
3)Try to uninstall the power manager & the power management driver (do this in the software installer) and reboot, now install the power management driver -> reboot -> and at the end install the power manager to complete this - maybe this will solve your problem!
4) Good luck!

Havent tried using a different accout yet. I will try the uninstall procedure you suggested 1st. Thanks. I replaced the 2 chips b/c IBM told me they were part of some defective batch they had months ago. They replaced them under warranty.

Standby
well i am back. Laptop still freezes sometimes. Yesterday i was battery power...out and about. Using gotomypc and i dimmed the screen. Came back 20 min later, and it was frozen. Did hard reboot, and it froze up with the windows splash screen, which was VERY VERY dim, so i almost couldnt see it. Shut down machine, waited 10 min, rebotted, all is ok. BUt this has happened quite a few times since i owned the machine. IBM has replaced both RAM chips. Thoughts? Could it be gotomypc? Power issues?

Re: Standby
Have you tried running with just 1GB of ram?stephenaron wrote:well i am back. Laptop still freezes sometimes. Yesterday i was battery power...out and about. Using gotomypc and i dimmed the screen. Also, have you updated everything (both via windows update and also via the thinkpad updater you can get to by hitting the thinkvantage button then maintenance then update my system)?

I have not tried running one chip, as it only happens sporadically. Everything is up to date.

I might try that, though i had IBM replace both chips with lenovo samsung ram, so i would hope that should take the RAM out of the equation. Who knows.

Well i sent my T60p again, and now its having its display replaced and motherboard too.
Make sure that you've installed the Windows Hotfix for "sometimes monitor won't resume from standby" detailed hereperry_78 wrote:I have the same problem, just that I cannot exit the standby. I need to reboot.

T41 randomly enters standby mode
I'm seeing the same problem with my T41 which will randomly go into standby mode. If I notice it soon enough starting to go into a standby, I can press CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up the Windows Security screen and then cancel which seems to interrupt the standby.
I've also "think" it can do more than randomly standby. It seems like it can standby, reboot, hibernate, or shutdown, based on my previous selection in the Windows Security box. These actions are all "graceful" in nature where it prompts to close files, etc.
This seems to have started occurring after a recent round of Microsoft XP updates. It also seems to be occurring more when I have my machine docked using an external KVM via USB. On the road I have not noticed this random/standby/shutdown/reboot/hibernate. The only other clue I might offer is I recently installed the Battery Gauge software. It almost seems like a virus or application running in the background is generating the keyboard strokes which induce the standby/shutdown/restart/hibernate. I am running current Symantec antivirus.
