t41 vs t42

#1 Post by mmreed » Sat Aug 28, 2004 12:45 pm

i have a t30 and love it...very rugged lower case. I recently used a t42 and was not that impressed. It seems IBM cheapend the bottom case by using thinner gauge materials than they did with the t30...i know they claim it is to be lighter...but lighter and flimsy is another story. The area around the cdrom on the t42 15" screen model seems VERY flimsy.

I guess my question is, at what point did IBM change the lower case? Does the T41 still have the old T30-style design?

Nop. T40, T41, and T42 have the same lower case. IBM did the change from T30 to T40, sorry :(

darn... theres a big difference in quality/durability between the t30s and the newer models...

I hate when vendors claim "light and mobile" when they should really say "light and more flimsy"

any tips on units to look at that offer better lower case designs? Some people compare fujitsu lifebook S models to IBM T models...

S Fujitsu series is really good...but IBM thinkpads are so way much better!!! I know, T30 was a tank, really strong...but this new T42 rocks man!!! :D I've used Fujitsu S2020 and S6000 series, but Thinkpads T4's are better,

Im just concerned about how flimsy the lower chasis is of the t42. I used one and the area around the cdrom is very weak - any little pressure woudl seem to snap the trim area ontop the cdrom. It also flexes so much when you pick it upwhen the screen is open...seems the weight of the lcd is even enough to cause something to snap.

I cant beleive IBM cheapend the lower chasis so much!

The tabook says that the T41 bottom
is a titanium composite whereas the
T42 is a carbon composite. Maybe the
T41 is more solid?
