Z61p bios and Merom??

#1 Post by {ISV-K}SVX » Tue Oct 31, 2006 1:08 pm

Does anyone know when they will be releasing a bios update for the Z61 series and whether or not it will support Merom? I know the T60p 2.01 bios added support for it, but I have not seen anything on the Z series side.

My Z61p has a Core Duo and not a Core 2 Duo - 9450-3AU. There is a new Z61p with the Core 2 Duo, but it is a different model type.

I am wanting to know if anyone has tried to upgrade and what their results were.

Need new bios

#6 Post by catdog » Sun Nov 19, 2006 6:25 pm

I changed my processor to a t7200 merom and this was after updating to latest available bios at lenovo and it did not start. The computer is going to need a new bios that lenovo has not made available BEFORE it will accept the Merom. I replaced the cpu back to the 2.00Ghz core duo and things are fine but i am frustrated. just went through same with my t60p but finally was able to update the bios and Merom worked fine after that.
Anyone know where i can find the needed bios for the z61p?

I will update bios and try to install the Core 2 Duo and report back to the crew...

hello lobstaa
you should always search before posting a question.
here are two previous threads.
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 61+upgrade

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... pu+upgrade

the short version.

1. update to bios 2.06 or later
2. make sure that your motherboard is rev 3 (olderboards do not have the hardware to support the higher voltage requirements of the c2d)
3. use artic silver 5 (might as well)
4. study the hmm and do the replacement.

regards,
jkahng
