What does the icon mean?

#1 Post by rabbarba » Tue Oct 31, 2006 4:22 pm

Hello,
I've got an IBM TP T43..

I wonder why that icon down to the lower right shows, it is the "Safe removal" icon, with a green arrow and a little grey sqare thingy.
When i check what it is for, it displays the CDRW/DVD Combo. Why?!
How do i remove that icon??

You click on this icon if you want to remove the CD/DVD drive and replace it with some other Ultrabay device. You would also use this icon to properly disconnect/remove a USB flash drive or a PC card. Even if you don't use it now you might need it in the future...

Right click on the Taskbar -> Properties -> Customize.
Set the Safely Remove Hardware item to Hide.

XP seems to safely add/remove those devices witout ever 'disabling' it first also.

I have always been able to plug in flash drives, media readers and my cd/dvd-roms with no problems.

Also, just to note, Windows should automatically "safe" the removable drive in the ultrabay when the first stage of the eject process is done. I.e., when you slip the catch and the pull-tab pops out. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
