IBM Registration
What are the benefits of registering with IBM? Does it validate my warratny? And how many of you have registered with them?
Also, I have never registered with Windows before, is this necessary?

i NEVER register my thinkpads (the ones i keep for myself) OR windows..
i just do not like giving personal info to ANYONE, especially M$..
if you DO register with ibm this will trigger (usually) the warranty start date..
otherwise warranty start will be the manufacture date..
in the past an extra few weeks would be added for shipping and stocking times..
so in some circuimstances NOT registering would gain a user a week or two additional time..

They already have your personal information, they shipped the item to you. Plus, if you register with IBM, that will be 2-3 weeks after the manufacture date (shipping time, boxing, etc.), thus you're gaining a couple weeks.
I had a valid warranty claim denied once because I didn't register the item with the company. On an item of this price, I decided it was worth registering.

yeah i would disagree about the warranty. i purchased my t40 in aug of 03, i called in june of of 04 b/c my battery 6 cell battery was like hold a 30% charge, they told me my 1yr battery warranty timed out in May, one month back. So then i didn't care much to give/get harassad and headed over to new egg and picked up another 6 cell.
P.S. i already have a 9 cell, i just like the 6 cell b/c it makes the notebook lighter and is able to fit more comfortably in my notebook bag.

Hmmm........ You must have just got the wrong person on the phone. I did the same thing (bought in Aug, swapped battery in June) and they didn't give me any problemi purchased my t40 in aug of 03, i called in june of of 04 b/c my battery 6 cell battery was like hold a 30% charge, they told me my 1yr battery warranty timed out in May, one month back.
