NMB Keyboard Flexes!

#1 Post by covertash » Wed Nov 01, 2006 12:34 am

Hello everyone!

I recently purchased a new keyboard off Ebay with FRU 39T0519 to replace my current (Thai NMB) keyboard. There wasn't anything wrong with the original keyboard, but I started to get irritated by the shiny keys due to the previous owner's usage. Once the new keyboard was installed I noticed a new irritant. The bottom right hand corner, where the arrow keys are, flexes when pressed!

I followed the directions to the T and I've even tried remounting the keyboard several times with no success. I think it might still be my error in mounting and screwing in the keyboard, but I want to know from all you fellow TP users if you have had the same issue with your China made NMB keyboards.

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

My recently-replaced chinese NMB keyboard (same FRU#) has a small amount of flex in the same area as you. However, it is a pretty minor amount of flex in my opinion, though noticeable, and I hadn't really noticed it until your post caused me to check. It certainly isn't enough to impact my typing.

Perhaps yours flexes more than mine.

I have read from somewhere in this forum where a moderator teach us how to stop the irritating keyboard from flexing. He said put a cardboard underneath the keyboard and the flexing will not be so easily noticeable anymore.

If i am not wrong, i think this moderator should be Steve (tfflivemb2).

Take some thin packing foam, about the thickness of a penny or other small coin, and tape it to the area under the flex. Be sure not to cover any of the small air holes, or the keys will not spring back like they should.

This should eliminate the flex.

There are some small tabs cut into the metal underneath the keyboard that you can bend up slightly thay will properly support the keyboard.

Thanks for everybody's responses. I will take it apart again some time over the weekend and apply some of the methods mentioned above.

Thanks again! :D
