X31 2673

#1 Post by zone » Thu Nov 02, 2006 4:47 pm

Hi

Just won X31 2673 CTO (1.6GHz, 512MB, 30GB, WiFi, XP Pro license certificate but no OS) from ebay for US$ 396, under warranty till March 2008.
Think that is quite good deal even with shiping to EU and 20% import tax. 8)

Now question is how to find support & downloads page at ibm.com, 2673 CTO points me on part list etc, unlike standard models CTO seems that has no dedicated site. What to do, to find close matching config and download things from there. Note that I'm not aware is there recovery partition still on the drive, also have no recovery disks for X31.

any hint what to do?

best

For software updates, theres no real need to work at it. Lenovo/IBM have a dedicated software installer that will check and install the latest updates (if you so wish - some stuff I'd rather leave off). so that's the only bit of software that you need to look up.

Wow, that was a great price, for sure...

Did it also include a X3 Ultrabase? I won one from the same seller I believe one month ago for $530. Nice even though I saw some gone a few bucks cheaper.

By the way, laptop is Grade-A looking, it's a great deal.

Well, on your question... In fact the real model for the laptop es 2673-Y13, you can check it here.

No X3 Ultrbase, but I have two Docks so if/when I need extra goodies Dock is way to go, I want something realy portable in addition to my ol' trusty A31p and ultrabase somewhat defeats beauty of X series IMHO. Coupled with ultrabase X31 seems to be heavier than 14" T4x.

Out of curiosity how much you were charged for shipng?

Didn't receive mine yet, will post impressions.

Thanks a lot this is exactly kind of answer what I was looking for.

Wow this beauty has Gigabit ethernet.

Well, mine was shipped to NM since a friend was coming back to Spain and could bring it back with her.
How much did Maria charge you?

On the gigabit card... yeah, I also was surprised this model had it. The only thing I didn't like was that the included card is an old Cisco 350 minipci.

I tried to use an Intel 2200 but I got the fatal 1820 error. I guess I 'll have to upgrade the bios and try again.

Lucky you, shipping was $50 via USPS.

I have Gigabyte GN-WIAG01 (Atheros Super AG) in my A31p, didn't have 1820 (I did latest bios update prior installation) but 01C9 issue, fortunately is fixed by NO-01C9 hack.

Anyway, Im prepard to make few upgrades on X31 soon, namely Atheros based WiFi card, 7k100 HDD, Bluetooth modem CDC... and maybe I'll take 2GB RAM for my A31p and move then 1GB from it in X31.

What's your impression of HDD, as I can see it's 4200 RPM drive, so after decent WiFi card HDD is high on my upgrade list.

Well, shipping wasn't that expensive, if it was sent through Global Priority Mail or even Airmail.

I've managed to install the 2200BG with no major problems after upgrading the bios and using the no-1802.com eeprom patch.

On the disk, it's slow, won't lie to you, but I can live with it for now. I have a 7200rpm disk on another laptop that might make it's way to the X31 sooner than later.

In a few days when I get the stick I'll be upgrading the ram to 1Gb, and later maybe I'll think of the BT CDC module. For now the Dlink BT-120 usb will have to do the trick, since it's quite small.

Shipping is USPS Global Express Mail (EMS).

BTW 2673 CTO has 512MB RAM as single or two 256MB units?

What is condition of battery in your X31?
