#1 Post by Spraiski » Thu Nov 02, 2006 7:30 pm

Does anyone know where fax speed can be specified in Windows XP?

I using an CDC modem (FRU 26P8256 if it makes a difference), and the fax printer functionality that comes with WinXP.

I think in the Device Manager tab properties for your modem. Or maybe the software of your choice. I used a long time ago WinFAX PRO, it worked flawlessly all the time

Unfortunately there is no option for setting the maximum fax connections speed in the Device Manager properties section for the modem.

Does anyone know of a freeware fax utility similar to the one that comes with windows, but that will let me modify the maximum connection speed.

Alternatively, is there a modem init string that I can use to set the max speed?

All laptop modems (Thinkpad or not) are generally Winmodems... they work on virtual IRQ's, and offer little tweaking and customizing. You are at the mercy at any advanced settings that the fax software, or perhaps Windows may offer.

Even today, as I travel out of town, I pack an external USR Courier modem. Most hotels and motels have really poor pbx systems, and sometimes I can't get a handshake properly with the fax machine I am trying to fax to. The Courier modem cuts thru all that. This is a real must for overseas faxing.
