Z61m unknown device

#1 Post by Bu11dog » Fri Nov 03, 2006 12:28 am

Hello All,

Just got my Z61m 3 days ago and love it more and more everyday.

The first thing I did was installing a fresh WinXP PRO. After that I used the Software Installer to install all required and most recommended drivers.

However, there is still one unknown device showing up in the Device Manger window.

The unknown device properties show that it is on "Intel 82801GBM(ICH-7M) LPC Interface. That's all the information I got.

Does anyone know which device is this and where I can download the driver for it. Thanks.

Following is the spec of my Z61m:

T2500(2GHz), 512MB RAM, 100G SATA 7200RPM, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, Wireless upgradeable, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, IEEE 1394, Fingerprint reader

own6volvos, thank you for replying to my question.

I installed the Intel Chipset Support and restart the machine but the device still shows up as unknown.

Now I am wondering if device is related to bluetooth.

Could be one of the:

TPM chip
ThinkPad Power Management Device

It has come up here before, because I remember running into the exact same thing with my Z61m.. but have since forgotten what it was! I'm pretty sure it was the "power management device" though.

I think the last thing to install on one of my z60's or T60's was the fingerprint reader. Is that working with the security software yet?

rek, I do have Thinkpad Power Management Device driver installed. However, I am not sure about TPM chips? If possible, can you forward me the link.

own6volvos, I did installed fingerprint reader and it works very well.

The unknown device is listed under Other Device section and under the Hardware Ids, it shows ACPI\ATM 1200.

Does this mean something to anyone? :?:

Have you tried downloading the chipset via www.intel.com site?

May well be the Atmel TPM chip then. (Is this showing up in the device manager as yet?)

Hi rek, yes, that's it! After I installed Atmel TMP chip device driver, the unknown device was gone.

Thank you so much and also everyone else who tried to help me out.

:D
