Ebay seller Thinkpadworld

#1 Post by nav323 » Fri Nov 03, 2006 4:37 am

Hi,

I would like to purchase a refurb T60p laptop from ebay seller thinkpadworld, but am unsure of the differences between a laptop with a L- claim classification and a N-claim classification.... :?

Does anybody know the exact meaning of these classifications and if there is a link explaining them on the IBM site?

Thanks
Naveen

That's a tough question. I have heard of L-claim and S-claim, but not N-claim before. Maybe call their 1-800 number and talk to someone directly.

Thinkpadworld is a good seller though.

Refurb IBM Claim classification

#3 Post by nav323 » Sat Nov 04, 2006 12:37 am

Hi Thinkpadaddict, thanks for the advice.
By the way, I've recently been given the following descriptions:

L claim Stands for Lenovo certified product.
Which means that the item was sold and then returned to Lenovo, in any case the item is still new.

N claim is fully-refurbished, tested and guaranteed IBM Certified Used notebooks: includes some systems that have minor cosmetic flaws including minor nicks, cracks and scratches on the exterior and a few faded keys on the keyboard. These systems are completely functional.

If anyone could verify this, that would be helpful :?

thanks, Naveen

In my experience, L-claim can be close to new (not new, but close). The most important thing when you buy a reburb though is the warranty. I wouldn't buy anything without at least 6 months direct IBM warranty.

I want to make an enquiry about the international aspect of the warranty.

Quoted from the ebay listings: "Total 42 Month Warranty- Six Months IBM Global Financing Warranty plus 3 Year Mack Computer International Extended Warranty. "

Does this mean that I can buy this as a buyer from Europe and get service locally in Europe?

Is this from Day 1, or must I return the notebook to the US within a certain period?

The Mack warranty - will this allow local service in Europe, or will I have to ship the notebook to a specific agent to have it repaired?

Thanks,

Ronan

Thanks, I just emailed them for clarification. I have been badly burned with a Sony extended warranty on a Vaio, so I am a little cautious, particularly since I am not a US resident.

I'm beginning to think that all extended warranties are very "gray". Even the Sony extended warranty, sold by sonystyle.com, with Sony trademarks all over the warranty documentation is not provided by Sony, but by a third party, who will always endeavor to find a loophole to allow them to decline cover for a repair.

LOL! So true...we (company I work for) purchased 300 extended warranty plans at a cost of $300 each...what a pain...they will deny 1 out of every three claims I make; sometimes higher and the warranty extension includes accidental damage protection!! Service is provided by servicenet, each claim takes at least 1 hour, with some going past 2.5 hrs....here is the process:

1- Call Sony get call number after explaining problem
2- Call service net, provide contract number (no contract number for the device...NO HELP!!...each device has its own contract number...they can not search by serial or customer name/ph #...after all information is provided, the information under the contract must match the information they have (s#, model, registered to) if any information is not correct they will not help you further...after all this, you provide detailed information of problem...if you make it this far, you get transfered to a "supervisor" who can approve the claim
3- The supervisor asks you the same friking questions as the person that took the call, if satisfied you get a "claim number" if not you get "I am sorry but your claim has been denied"
4- With the claim number, you must call Sony; provide the "call number and claim number" then they will issue the on-site service, laptop box to send in for repair or however your particular service contract is configured!! Then you wait 1 to 2 days for box, 7 to 14 days for repaired confirmation and an additional day to receive unit back!!

AND THIS IS PART OF THEIR B2B OFFERING...I can only imagine how it is on the consumer side!!

Oh great more Sony support stories. I recently had a batch of their DVD burners, expensive units mind you, fail on me and went through the exact same crap Draco did. In the end, they *somehow* figured that the cost to repair the drives, even with their "warranty" (which I think they consider just a touch higher than scratch paper), would cost almost as much as the drives themselves did when *new*. At this point, I still have to figure out a way to unload them and, no, I am not paying them a dme for the repairs. :banghead:

I'm not sure. Their phone # is 800-334-9693. Press 1 and 1 again. I have to admit that when I got my Z60m from Thinkpadwold, I was really impressed. The laptop looked new and the battery had only been cycled twice.

Then a few days before my 6-month warranty expired I had issues with the battery (not the recall type) and I called IBM Global Financing only to find out that the laptop was out of warranty. So I called Thinkpadworld and they told me to send the battery in and they'll replace it. Got the replacement battery (it only had like 4 cycles on it) a few days (maybe a week) later.

I've really enjoyed my Z60m and I think I got a great deal on it too.

Thanks.

A little Google'ing brought up the following:

Samsung Has Been Awarded The Singapore Service Class Certification

Centering on Service at Centrepoint

Asia's government IT magazine
Asia's government IT magazine wrote:S-Class certification is awarded by the Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board of Singapore to recognise organisations for their commitment to better serve customers through service excellence. The S-Class framework helps organisations to improve service capabilities through developing key components such as Service Leadership, Service Agility, customer Experience and Customer Delight.

Do not mean to hijack this thread, but I find I would avoid "thinkpadworld". The way he describes the warranty is very confusing:

Factory sealed 3 years warranty.

That reads as if it has 3 year factory warranty but at the end of description, you will find: 6 months of factory warranty plus 3 years of Mack warranty" in very FINE print.

To me, that is cheating and scam. I would never buy from this guy unless he stops doing this.

the ibm warranties (at least the main one) are international.

the extended ones...well you have to go through all the documentation to find out. i wanted to get the ext wrrty from ibm romania, i got the laptop from them, but it wasnt international, when i spoke to ibm switzerland they said all the warranties they sell are internationally valid.
so i think its up to the country, and once again you should read the documentation to find that out

and once again, speaking of sony, few years back, the 2 months old digital camera died, bought from states, with international warranty, and when i went to sony service in sri lanka, they told me its not valid there....they recognise only asia-pacific warranties...so so much abouth worldwide sony's warranties

I bought my T60p from him on ebay. It DOES NOT COME WITH AN IBM WARRANTY!!!! Sadly, I was burned on that. The machine was as described, but he didn't even send the Mack warranty certificate he promised. $#@% BUT I called IBM and they said you can PURCHASE additional warranty on these machines at a rate of $171 per year. I recorded the phone call if anyone wants to hear it (Thank you Bluetooth!). My model is 200792U.

Harout,

I just got burned by thinkpadworld too. Did you put negative feedback on Ebay, because I saw very little there. If not, can you tell me why not?
