z60m Buzzing Noise

#1 Post by morovan » Fri Nov 03, 2006 10:58 am

I have a strange buzzing noise, almost sounds like static - emminating from the machine near the hinges. If I rotate or pivot the machine the noise gets quieter, but comes back when I place it stationary again.

Anyone else notice this?

Thats near the CPU fan, which might be dusty or cloged.

It could be a defective fan, is the temp on the CPU reasonable?

If it is related to the fan, turn it off via TP FCU and see if it still makes that noise, both on and off AC line power. :)

It is caused by a vibration above the battery. I can remedy the issue by pushing on the battery. The battery seems slightly loose in the bay. If I put a piece of electrical tape in the battery bay before inserting the battery it will stop the buzz.

Ah, good that you found the solution (I didn't know about that). On a side note, does the battery jiggle by itself in the battery bay? :)

Yes, slightly. I assume not as bad as the extended life battery as I have read elsewhere . . .
