CSS 7x & Checking Status of Embedded Security Chip
After upgrading to Client Security Solution 7.00.0022, my X41 now spends 1-2 minutes "checking the status of the embedded security chip" prior to login.
Anyone else run into this or know the problem/fix?

Disabling the Fingerprint Scanner is a workaround, but doesn't really address the problem of the poor service, which is the CCS 7.00.0022 patch.
Is ther any way to unistall this patch and revert back to the priviously installed CSS version?

I think there is, but I couldn't figure it out. When I uninstalled CSS7 and tried to reinstall CSS6, it still said that a newer version was already installed, so I couldn't do it.juan_tastic wrote:Disabling the Fingerprint Scanner is a workaround, but doesn't really address the problem of the poor service, which is the CCS 7.00.0022 patch.

I checked with IBM/LVO tech support. Apparently the problem occurs when CSS 7x is installed on top of CSS6x. CSS6x has to be uninstalled 1st.
The suggested solution was to restore to factory settings (after BU you data..), then unistall CSS 6x then reinstall 7x.
IMOis a bit excessive....they should have build an unistaller in the new patch.

Restore to factory defaults? That's way too much work. They should make a patch now that completely uninstalls all of CSS so you can just install CSS7 cleanly.

Agreed. You can try and uninstall CSS7x yourself, but the tech didn't think it would work.
I didn't get the Case Number from the tech, otherwise we could all call in, make the same "request" for a patch and cross reference the case numbers. Once the volume of complaints starts to rise, they will have to respond, probably in the next CSS upgrade. I worked for 2 software Cos., and that's how patches get created.

Yeah, I can confirm that--I did try uninstalling CSS7, and it didn't work.juan_tastic wrote:Agreed. You can try and uninstall CSS7x yourself, but the tech didn't think it would work.

I had a problem with not being able to install a windows update for the .NET framework 1.1, so i sent in a ticket to MS, and they told me to do a bunch of stupid stuff that didn't work. then they "escalated" it, and i was told to disable all startup services and reboot. so i did. now the only thing i've seen on my screen for the last two hours is "checking status of embedded security chip"
Nice, huh? but a more pressing question is how do i get rid of it and be able to log on? the only thing i hate more than microsoft is ThinkBad's lousy "ThinkVantage" implementation.
(It's a t60 with no fingerprint reader)
