T23 How the wifi fittig went

#1 Post by G8PSZ » Sat Nov 04, 2006 12:51 pm

Hi, just thought I'd report on the internal wifi fitting on my T23,
The card I used was a Broadcom 802.11g mini pci card, initialy fitted with no aerial,
the drivers were sourced via the windows update option & windows succesfully sourced the correct Broadcom
drivers, did a google search for the Broadcom config utility & found that on the HP site. all looking good,
with a working card but no aerial yet.
Time to dismantle the T23 for aerial fitment, all went by the book & fitted the two aerial's much as wireless4laptop
suggests, as queried in another thread, yes there is a hole in the mobo just by the pci card slot even on a non wifi T23,
one aerial was routed to front rt of the chassis behind battery compartment to a handy recess just at the edge of the palmrest,
the other aerial was routed to the rear Lt up by the hinge behind the pcmcia slots.
result being I now have a truly wifi enabled T23 signal levels are reported as being very good as opposed to
excellent as reported by my linksys card, however it works

Chris

Sounds good! I may have to try that antenna update in a couple of my T23s. Although I will probably try fitting one of them along the back edge, just above the parallel port. Whenever I have the chance to get to this project, I'll document my entire procedure on a web site.
