I BROKE IT !
I BROKE IT !
I replaced my keyboard on my T22 and now it won't boot. Keyboard seems fine but error message says
"harddrive not installed; if operting system not found, re-install hard drive, etc......
then it tries run Boot Agent 4.0.17 which also says operating system not found....
Since I had to remove the hard drive to install keyboard, could I have damaged it??
I also took out the backup battery so does that crash something that prevents it from booting??
It should not be this hard if I did not damage the hard drive.
Any ideas

Re: I BROKE IT !
Possible. Turn off the system, remove the battery, then remove the hard drive. Inspect the two rows of pins to make sure that they are all pointing in the same direction. You WILL notice that there seems to be two pins missing near one end; that's normal. There's also one missing near the middle, towards the bottom of the drive. If all pins appear to be fine, then you may have to remove the keyboard and keyboard bezel to inspect the hard drive "frame". Recently one other poster on this board said that a hard drive problem was due to a bent piece of metal on the frame getting in the way of the hard drive pins.W4JVE wrote:Since I had to remove the hard drive to install keyboard, could I have damaged it??
(edit: Here's the thread: T23 ibm thinkpad)
Possible, but unlikely. Not to say that it can't/won't ever happen, but the system should attempt to recognize any new hard drive that is installed and configure itself. If the hard drive inspection does not reveal anything abnormal, you can try booting into the BIOS and re-load the setup defaults. This may change some settings you like/need but you can always reset them.W4JVE wrote:I also took out the backup battery so does that crash something that prevents it from booting??
(edit2: BTW, you shouldn't of had to remove the hard drive just to R&R the keyboard. I know the Hardware Maintenance Manual says to remove both batteries, the HD and Ultrabay, but I've done many keyboard removals without touching the CMOS battery, HD or Ultrabay device. Now, if you're talking about the keyboard bezel, then yes, all those things must be removed.)

tried some things
I got it to go to the bios setup thing....the only thing that looked like it might make a difference was the boot selection...I chose to boot from HD but after selecting and saving, it doesn't boot, still complains about not having a HD installed.
Going to take the HD out now and see what I see.
More later, thanks for the info.

Thank you for your assistance. I took out the HD, and the pins were as you said, no problems there. I visually inspected inside and saw where the connector was located...then carefully re-seated the HD....I think I had not been getting the HD properly seated into its little connector..
Now all is fine.
Your suggestion made me be more careful about insuring I had the HD seated and now I am up and running...
Again, thanks for the advice.
