R60 9455A18 "Beep" noise bug

#1 Post by Nyxator » Sat Nov 04, 2006 11:24 pm

Just want to ask any thinkpad R60 users suffer this issue.

When I press "4,5,6" or "g,h,j" or "t,y,u" etc simultaneously in random combination it causes the a 'beep' sound. I notice the 'beep' volume is depending on my volume setting.

Initially when I first heard it, I got quite a shocked because I was working real late and it was a quiet night with no one around then suddenly...... "BEEP" !

So anyone knows how to turn it off without adjusting the volume setting?

Yup, present on most Thinkpads and, for that matter, laptops in general.

Bring up the Control Panel, then click on System and bring up the "Hardware" tab and click on Device Manager. After you have done that, click on View>"Show Hidden Devices" and expand "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" by clicking on the little plus sign next to it. Scroll down to where you find "Beep" and disable that device driver. Then click OK/Apply to save changes and test it out. You shouldn't have the beep when you hit three keys anymore afterwards. :)
