Shocking! My VGA port, that is.

#1 Post by RUSH2112 » Sat Nov 04, 2006 11:33 pm

I dont know if this is a problem or what, but I've noticed a few times that my vga port gives me a little shock when I touch it. As I type, my left pinky sometimes goes over the edge and hits it, and it gives me a little zap. It has happened more than once today. Should I be concerned?

It seems to me that came up once before. The most likely cause is static electricity. If there were actually an electrical charge, you need to gtet the machine repaired. ... JD Hurst

mine occurs, too. but only on some types of floor your feet is touching. and it occurs only when my X60s is plugged in.
try to use battery. if it still occurs, maybe your X60 has problem.

That is a static shock; it really depends on the insulating abilities of the surface you are standing on and, usually, what kind of clothes you are wearing. Thick turtleneck sweaters and rubber-soled shoes with corduroy will do that in a jiffy. The VGA port has an exposed metal casing that is a great conductor for the built up charge. Nothing to really worry about. :)

Although it must be said that certain types of deoderant are incredibly flammable, don't spray any on your hands and you shouldn't buerst into flames.
