Define position of Windows boxes on extended desktop
I am using a T42p with an ATI Mobility Fire GL T2 graphics adapter. A second external display is connected via port replicator. The extended desktop thus has a resolution of 3200x1200.
The two monitor screens are treated as one single desktop. As all windows messages and most applications startup windows are sent to the desktop's center position by default, they are split up over the two displays and not comfortably readable.
Does anybody know how to redirect the position of windows message boxes to another default position? As far as I was told by experts I know, this has to be done by the graphics adapter - but how? Or is there any other way?

I've run extended desktop on my system, and never had this happen. If anything, I had apps and their message boxes opening on one or the other, which I found annoying.
Lame suggestions follow.... Check your driver, see if you're using the lastest for your card. There's a utility discussed here from time to time, UltraMon(?), which is indispensible for those using 3hree monitors, but has some gee-whiz features for those using only 2wo monitors. Use search, I'm confident you'll find the threads....

I remembered that the Case Of The Random Message Boxes on my work laptop was a result of dragging some over to the second display. My resolution was working on the primary display only (turning off the second), then shutting down. After booting, and switching back to both displays, message boxes and such defaulted to the primary.
There were still some instances where a particular app which I'd moved to the second display would launch its message boxes in the primary display. Very annoying, that.

I'm afraid, my problem wasn't described exactly.
I don't have a primary and a secondary display within the graphics adapter, but one display (3200x1200) that is extended over two monitors: the first one being the Laptops TFT (showing the left 1600x1200 pixels), the second one a monitor connected via the port replicator (showing the right 1600x1200 pixels).
Thus the display's center is exactly at the right edge of the Laptop's TFT and at the left edge of the external monitor. And all system message windows are sent to this position, split up on both screens.
Does anybody else has the same behaviour and maybe knows how to redirect the messages to another default position?
