Windows Management BRCM NetworkVirtualAdapter Problem

#1 Post by christopherjpreston » Mon Nov 06, 2006 1:43 am

I have a T42 with all the standard Lenovo drivers installed. However I have noticed an event error ID which only seems to happen on boot where two errors are generated. I have googled this to death and found nothing. The main problem I experience seems to be slow startup, like the computer boots into windows, hangs a little and then my desktop appears. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Details are below

Event ID 24, WinMngt

Event provider attempted to register query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceDeletionEvent where TargetInstance ISA "BRCM_NetworkVirtualAdapter"" whose target class "BRCM_NetworkVirtualAdapter" does not exist. The query will be ignored.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Anyone?

I have really struck out on this one. Have searched Usenet and googled. The only comment I found was to upgrade Broadcom drivers but I doubt a standard T42 has Broadcom drivers

I think in your case, I would try running a registry cleaner program to get rid of errant entries in the registry. I use Norton WinDoctor for these types of tasks, but there are many others out there.

Have already used Registry Aid, Tune Up Utilities Registry cleaner and Jv16. No change

Could this be a hardware problem or is it software?

Are you using AC? If so, are you sure that it doesn't try to logon to a certain network during startup?

You can grab a copy of BootVis and track what your system is doing during startup as well as type in "msconfig" in the "Run..." dialog to figure out what is starting up. :)
