Touch pad questions

#1 Post by dannydoo » Mon Nov 06, 2006 1:55 pm

My r40 touch pad buttons are freaky.

Its like my left click is stuck down.
I have to disbale the touchpad for my track point to work, otherwise it left clicks locked and i cant do move the mouse.

But

when i do disable it,the track point works perfectly.

DO you think maybe some little crumb got in there and jammed it?Is there a spring or something that could bind up?
It feels normal when pressed.

What should I do? If i need to replace it,how much of the keyboard needs to be replace to fix that left clicker?on the touckhpad

Have you looked at the trackpoint accessibility options under the accessibility options in ThinkPad Configuration? (That's a mouthful.)

There is an option to "lock" mouse buttons for the handicapped.

If I've got Google's picasa picture site right here's what I'm talking about: http://picasaweb.google.com/KenSmith57/IBMThinkPad

Yes I know "handicapped" is not PC, but I'm NOT PC (never have been) and AM handicapped. Now be quiet or I'll beat you with my peg leg. So there!

And anything else I can stuff in.

Any one else here old enough to have used an IBM 029 Keypunch? :}

Hi,

Yes and Thanks,Thats the first thing I tore thru when the problem started.
Then I downloaded the new updates from Ibm and re installed the drivers etc etc.

The whole trackpoint works the mouse moves and i can right click but the left click wont work.
Like its stuck,it acts exactly how it would if you held the left click down while booting up.

Then I disable it "touchpad" via the scren you posted, and I use the trackpoint w/no problems.

Not sure how the touchpad on the R40 is connected (A30 has none), but you have a couple of choices...

One is to wait for someone else to chime in (Moderators?).

You can take it apart and see how the touchpad is attached and if it can be taken apart. You can then replace any broke parts that you find (like some Dells, I think ThinkPads have models that come with a separate touchpad on the palm rest and others that are integrated with the keyboard).

You can send it in for repair.

Or you can live with just the TrackPoint.

The touch pad on a R40 is built into the palm rest, and is connected separately to the keyboard. If you disassemble the computer as per the Hardware Maintenance Manual, you should be able to have a look at the buttons fairly easily.

Gee... I knew someone would check-in with the answer. :thumbs-UP:

Even if it is on the other side of the planet.
