X41 4 Cell Battery Life - User Experiences Requested

#1 Post by juan_tastic » Mon Nov 06, 2006 11:47 pm

I'm getting 1hr15 min on a 4 cell battery with 21 cycles, using a default power config. Using the 2527 model, 1.5, 40, Bluetooth off. From playing with the settings, it looks like screen brightness is the big culprit.

According to IBM/LVO, FRU 92P0998 is rated for 3.5 hours. Has anyone, in real life conditions, ever achieved this benchmark? Or do you really have to crank down the power settings (e.g. 1 bar brightness) and turn off every thing to achieve this target???

Let me know your experiences.

Screen and wireless are the 2 biggest power consumers. That being said you should get more than 1 1/2 hours. You might have a bad cell in the battery. See if the battery gauge drops suddenly. For example you go from 100% to 99% to 98% then a quick drop to 75%.

You can also go into the Power Manager and select the "Battery Information" tab and see the battery Details. I would reset it after that to get a clean look.

To get 3.5h with that battery you'll have to use maximum battery saving settings and do nothing on it ;)

A good tip is to go to Network Connections--> Wireless --> Properties --> Advanced Properties (for your wlan card) And change the powersaving setting to max and transmission power to the lowest. But only if you usually have a good connection with your accesspoint.

But it won't matter if you are downloading the entire time and using the wireless...

That'll give you a few minutes extra battery.

And the screen I usually have at 70%, it'll also give you a few minutes, and harddrive spin down is set to one minute.

Create a new powerscheme with the cpu set to adaptive.

After that I suppose you'll get a bit closer to 2h.
