How ot install windows on an X23?

#1 Post by TJMacGyver » Tue Nov 07, 2006 5:36 am

I just got an x23 in mail today :) sweet

but I haven't got an USB cd-drive.

So how would i go about installing windows on it?
right now it boots into dos (nothing but the boodisk files)

I have it in a port replicator II

I'm thinking either network boot or boot from flash drive(if thats possible)

but I don't know how to setup a network boot (I'm Running windows XP)
can anyone help me? please
and thanks.

I don't have any XP experience, but what I usually do is remove the drive and dump the install files onto it using a USB external drive enclosure and another computer. If the X23 is like the X30, getting the drive out should be a snap.

I now have windows xp running on it :D

I booted from network, it took a little time to figure out how, but it's quite simple.

I just used tftp32 as the server. Created a bootdisk image with network drivers. Then I used "network boot tools's network boot image editor" to create a PXE boot menu image (don't know if that was necessary though) (I also changed the type from netware to TCP/IP boot)

booted from network, mapped a share with windows install files, and copied them over to the harddrive with xcopy.

then i ran the install from the harddrive.

all done :D

But when windows has loaded, there's almost constantly activity on the harddrive, even when it has been idle for many minutes.

anybody know why it's doing that? It has 300 and something MB of memory. Not much, but have run XP succesfully with less.
