Question about IBM Active Protection System..........

#1 Post by sktn77a » Mon Aug 30, 2004 7:52 am

Well, two, actually.......

1. Is the active protection system a sensor that is built into the T4x as opposed to the actual hard drive? So swapping drives in a T41/T42 for a larger aftermarket one would retain this functionality (I'm planning to upgrade the 40gb to an 80gb 5400rpm Hitachi)?

2. The T42 is listed as image compatible with the T40. So I can just use my T42 recovery disks on my T41 and T40 and get the latest drivers, etc?

Thanks :D

With respect to Question 1, the Active Protection System on my T41 works with any drive I put in it. So I think it is part of the T41. In fact, it was this interaction with the APS on the T41, the then-current APS software, and the then-current drivers for the 60 Gb 7200-rpm Hitachi drive that caused the hard drive to uncerimoniously expire. ... And with respect to question 2:
Yes, the T42 disks will work fine in the T40, but this doesnt ensure the latest drivers. If your T40 is working fine, just go to the web and update your drivers, it will be cleaner that way.
