Do you play games on your ThinkPad?

#1 Post by G-Man » Wed Apr 28, 2004 1:36 am

I just thought this post would be a nice start of this section.
I’m just curious if anybody else is using his/her TP for gaming? If so, what games are you guys playing? I’m a kind of World War II freak, therefore I usually play “Medal of Honor” and “Call of Duty,” but I’m also a big fan of Microsoft’s “Age of” series. I try to avoid games that are too unreal.

G,

My son in law, knowing my fondness for world history, gave me copies of Civilization II and Civilization III for my birthday last September.

I haven't even opened the boxes yet, as I know my weakness for gaming. Way back in the days of steam powered PCs, I was addicted to Zork (http://www.csd.uwo.ca/Infocom/zork1.html) and spent hours at my ancient Trash80 drawing maps and documenting "tricks".

Regards,

James

James,

Civ rulez. It's one of the best games out there. You should try it. Especially since you like history. Just like Zork, this one is also a highly addicting game, so be careful.

The following games have touched my A31:
-Rainbow 6: Rogue Spear
-Rogue Spear: Urban ops mission pack
-Rainbow 6: Black Thorn
-Worms 2
-Soldier of Fortune (great for stress relief)

I havn't reloaded any of them since my last rapid restore.

I'm playing Battlefield1942 and Battlefield Vietnam on T40. Both running well, although the new BFV is only playable with low video quality. But anyway, playing on the Thinkpad RuleZ and gives me the freedom to play even if I am not at home.

Age of Emipres 2 ist also a great game, wich I used to play through the last years.

I play Unreal Tournament on my T30 - the original not one of the more recent versions. Runs nicely even at 1400X1050 with all detail turned on, I even have to turn the game speed down to 90%.
I made the mistake of buying UT2003, I get a frame rate in single digits...
Think I'm going to have to get a T42...

I tried it once... It worked for nearly a week, but since my xbox is in Europe, I HAD to put something on my TP.

I play Quake III on the T40 all the time
I have also played recentley Unreal Tournement 2004 on it.
I must say that UTK04 plays better on the thinkpad than on my desktop apart from sound.
The desktop only runs a Geforce Ti4200
and the thinkpad has the Radeon 9000 guess thats the difference
but I was pleseantly surprised at this.

I also have some old Atari games like
Asteroids and centipede tempest etc etc...
But I think these run on a cell phone.
Cool thing about them is they plat off the CD

I once used a Thinkpad to prop up a table upon which we were playing cards - does this count?

Everquest runs nicely on a T41p. Only issue is sometimes the game slows way down. I think that is the thermal sensor since after a few minutes the speed picks up again. I guess that is better than the computer locking up. I also played Everquest on a T40p, but looks better on T41p. Can't wait for Everquest II to be out.
