wierd problem with wireless

#1 Post by rabbarba » Wed Nov 08, 2006 10:58 am

hey, every time i turn on my t43, i have to repair the wireless connection, or else i cant connect to the internet.
Does anyone know why?

edit: one more question.

How do i check how many battery cycles my battery has?
Is that the way to check the health of the battery?

Left click the green battery gauge on the taskbar. Select Battery Information on the menu. Then select the Status tab. Next click on the battery health button. You should see all the relevant data there.

At least that is how it works on my T42. No idea on the wireless though, sorry.

Could be a problem with your TP and your wireless router/access point, or a winsock issue, are you running access connections or using windows to configure your wireless connection?

I have similar problem and reported in another post on this forum. I also get "Excellent" connection but have to use Repair in order to access the Internet.

This is particularly true for my home router, Netgear Rangemax 240 but has happened at local wireless spots as well but not nearly as often as at home. There I have to Repair just about every time I change websites...and I am not using Access Connections, just Win XP for connection.

Laptop is T41 with Intel 2100 wireless card...using XP SP2 as well.

I use windows to configure the wireless network. I use a level1 WBR-3406TX wireless router.
Also, the connection is very slow, it can take some time to load the sites i am visiting. It isnt like that if you connect it with the cat5 cable.
I've just tried this wireless network, not any other one so i dont know if its the computer or the router.

I just fixed this problem by reinstalling older driver (1.2.4.41) dated 2/28/2005...

There isn't a link, the driver was on my machine...must have been in one of the downloads.

To access:

Start->
Right Click "My Computer"->
Manage->
Device Manager->
Network Adapters->
Right Click on "Intel Pro/Wireless Lan 2100 3B Adapter->
Update Driver->
"No, Not this time"->
"Install from list or specific location (Advanced)"->
"Don't Search, I will choose driver to install (bottom selection)"->
Double click on "Intel PRO/Wireless Lan 2100 3B mini PCI Adapter Versions1.2.4.35 (2/8/2005)->
Allow the unsigned driver to load.

The other driver listed on my machine is for the Intel PRO/Wireless Lan 2100 3B mini PCI Adapter Version 1.2.41 (7/13/2006) and that is the one that I removed...

My wireless is still working like it was new...

Thanks for the tips here -- I think it's solved the same problem for me (I'll have to see if it's still connected when I get home from work today).

I ended up installing 1.2.4.37 from Intel's site:

Also, I just found this other thread here on the same topic:

Yeah that one is mine...wireless is still working perfectly, wasn't the router at all, just the lousy drivers...which is what I think is the problem with my USB ports as well (throttle down to 1.1) so I am trying to find a permanent fix for that as well (even though I got a lot messages that it was my motherboard...just like I got messages on the router). Personally I think people are too quick to blame hardware...hardware faults are pretty easy to troubleshoot unless they are intermittent.
