USB CD Drive on a 240X (getting it to run)

#1 Post by Billa » Thu Nov 09, 2006 2:17 pm

Hi,

Back again. I got the bios on my 240x upgraded and went about the process of installing XP. I reformated the hard drive and got the computer booted up with a Windows 98 start up disk.

My new problem is how to get the system to recognize the CD drive. The drive is an IBM portable drive bay 2000 PN # 19K4499. I only have the usb cable for it. I downloaded the driver for a 240x but it only supports the pcmcia slot. I went back to the IBM site and found software for the 19K4499. It is ziped and when unpacked, it is larger than one floppy. I kept inserting floppies until it got to a file that was to big to fit on one floppy, had to give up.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help >

Bill

you have to format the drive in the 240x then remove the drive and hook up to another computer using an adapter. then copy the i386 files over then reinstall the drive into your 240 and run setup in dos in the i386 dir.
the most important thing is you must fdisk and format in the 240 or it wont work. i use a usb drive adapter http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid ... cpc=CBLbsc
