Can we order new batteries from IBM/Lenovo for R40s?

#1 Post by mmmkay » Fri Nov 10, 2006 2:33 am

I'm just curious.. CDI.. the company who refurbed my R40 is taking forever to order me a new battery. I'm thinking if I can order them from IBM/Lenovo directly, it might be quicker that way (and send them the receipts)

Is there a line to call or something for parts? I guess I'm just needing a 02k6928 battery.

That or just buying the ones with a 1 year warranty..

I'd hate to have more new old stock.

Why don't you try to search in ebay and get 1 from there? :-)

Because they're not made by IBM/Lenovo, and I'm not really looking for more new old stock :)

And because they're replacing it under warranty so I figure I might as well get something nice eh

Yes you can order R40 batteries from IBM/Lenovo. I got one from them recently by ordering it off their web site. Of course, it is significantly more expensive than buying an aftermarket one but it is a genuine part.

The cells are made by Panasonic :)

Yeah I found that too. But their part numbers are not the same? :\

What's the difference between the ASM P/N and the FRU? Just one for retail channels and one for parts?

I think I should get another ultrabay battery too. My new old stock one looks like it might be on the way out, so I am gonna see if I can get a refund on it. :)

The part number (FRU P/N) of the battery I received is 02K6928. The ASM P/N is 02K7057.

I'm guessing that FRU stands for field replacement unit and ASM is for building a machine up from new parts. I would say that there is absolutely no difference between the two since they are printed side by side on my battery.
