Z60t - UltraNav Touch Pad not detected..?

#1 Post by plumix » Sat Nov 11, 2006 2:08 pm

I am absolutely pleased with the IBM z60t that I bought last october. Recently one day when I started my system, the ultranav Touchpad is not working. The tracking point is working though.

so asusual, I opened the think pad configuration to check the details, I found out that the ultranav thinkpad got disabled.

went to IBM's site & upgraded the driver & rebooted the system. still the same. looks like my ultranav touch pad is not getting detected.

could somebody help figure out how to make it work..

Thanks,
plumix

The TouchPad (or TrackPoint) can be disabled in ThinkPad Configuration (requires a reboot), or in the BIOS. Check the setting in the BIOS. Press F1 at the beginning of the boot sequence to enter the BIOS.

EDIT: IMO, it is better to disable the TouchPad or TrackPoint with the UltraNav Wizard than with the other two methods mentioned above. Disabling with the UltraNav Wizard does not require a reboot to take effect. Be sure and check both settings; the BIOS first, then the UltraNav Wizard if you have it installed.

I had the same problem....the ultranav disappeared from the bios too. The fix was to remove the palmrest (by removing 2 or 3 screws on the bottom - directions are on the web), remove the palmrest cover, locate the ultranav cable....its a short thin flat cable...remove it, restart the pc, shut down, reconnect the cable, restart the pc, it should be back again. this happened to me when i left a usb drive in the machine & turned it on, or it could just be a losse cable-

I absolutely appreciate your help.
It worked like a magic. A small white flap switch is de-plugged.
I plugged it in after removing the palm rest & rebooted the system.
boom , the touchpad is back :o :D .
you are right. the touch pad even got disappeared in the BIOS.
I am not sure of ur USB problem, but I also feel the same.
I have a USB plugin wireless mouse I use with my thinkpad, I did rebooted the system having the USB plugged in, but I dont think this is the reason, cause I have done that many times & still the touch pad worked fine.

Once again thank you very much :) , you saved a lot of time for me which I would have wasted in some crapy phone talking to those customer-service people.
