Point of Proper Protocol?

Afternoon all,

Been thru much of your archives and found gads of info which helps me about 90% of the time. My question is how to address the 10% that the previous threads leaves me in awe or misunderstanding.

Gone through the Rules of the Road and other stickies and it doesn't seem to be addressed. Here's my example :

Got a T23 with a new 80Gb hard drive and XP Pro to install. Found several threads with alot of info to get me going, but what should I do if I have a more definate question about a post in an older thread:

Should I post it in the older thread which will bring it back to life; or, post a new post and add a link to the older thread as reference?

Not sure how you all like it as I'm fairly new here.

Unless there is a thread that deals with a specific issue that you are having, I'd go with a new thread ...

Depends, if it is really important and the problem that you are having is not directly the cause of the other thread, I would say post a new one. If it is like the old thread, but you can't get it to work, then you can post and bump the old thread with the question.

Yes, we all have our issues with the search function, and most are more than happy to either answer the question, take a shot at an answer or may point you in the direction of a thread they remember dealing with the issue or a similar issue.

I'll try to keep most questions current cause you oldies probably know the more informative archived threads that deals with my curiosities

Besides, most of my questions are usally to dumb to have been asked before , or hopfully again.

It is also important to gain new points of view on old problems so as to best come up with better future solutions.
