Hey,

Does anyone have any recommended monitor-cleaning wipes for the T60?

If you search you will find many questions regarding this. However, I *heard* places like Staples and Comp USA et al. sell a cleaner for LCDs.

avoid alcohol and ammonia - RadTech.us sells a very good brand. some people like Klear Screen but I find it leaves streaks.

I've heard use a 50/50 combo of Isopryl Alcohol and water with a small sprayer. And just wipe with a microfiber cloth. I don't know if that's the best solution though.

Mine is starting to get a little dirty.

I've always used Windex and paper towels. I clean the whole laptop with it. Never had any problems and I've owned Thinkpads since the 770ED.

Windex will damage your screen. Do not use it. After a while the anti glare coating will begin to deteriorate causing your screening to look splotchy. Some screens are even known to turn yellow after long periods of time.

Your best bet is the water Isopryl Alcohol mixture.

Also, make sure you stay away from anything with...

- Acetone
- Ammonia
- Ethyl Acid
- Ethyl Alcohol
- Methyl Chloride

Well, what to use to clean your screen is in the FAQ, but here is what I would recommend;

A screen cleaner, like KlearScreen, and a Microfiber/Chamois Cloth. You can use Isopropyl alcohol and water if you want, but it has the potential to leave hard-to-rub-away streaks with certain types of deposits on the screen.

A little water on the micfrofiber 'rag' works very well on the LCD screen. No streaks are left on the screen.

Absolutely sure? For me, streaks are present even when not directly visible from a normal orientation to the screen. All the times I have tried water, it still leaves little trail on the LCD if you turn it off and look closely at it from an oblique angle with an ambient light source present.

I have the misfortune of needing to clean assorted ThinkPad screens fairly regularly. IMHO cleaning the screen is an easy way to improve the user experience. I am amazed how many users don't notice how dirty their screens are. My regular screen cleaning methods:

- Brush off dust with a dry paintbrush (that has never been used for painting!)
- Very light buffing with dry microfibre cloth.
- Breath mist and wipe for minor spots.
- Damp cloth with tap water for nasty cases followed by buff with dry cloth

I find that the rare cases of streaking are caused by non water soluble stuff that is just getting pushed around the screen by the methods above, usually left there by previous use of a chemical cleaning agent.

I am yet to find a good solution for cleaning the new glossy screens though. They are really good at holding on to the dust, because of static cling I think. The microfibre cloth just pushes dust around the screen but doesn't pick it up. It ends up caked around the edges and corners of the panel. Wetting the cloth doesn't help much. Any advice on that would be greatly appreciated.

Bahhhh, I hate that.

The only way I have foud to clean stuff like that out is with a toothpick and some cloth on the end of it or a damp Q-tip. Although I do brush as much dust and debris off the screen as I can before I apply the cleaning agent/water with the cloth.

I don't know how screen safe it is, but Zeiss lens cleaner (I know bhphoto.com sells it) doesn't leave any residue...though the pre-moistened wipes stink.

I strongly recommend:

3M Electronic Equipment Cleaner (spray)
3M ScotchBrite Microfiber Cloth

I have three clothes which you put in the wash (without fabric softener).

Use those brush designed for brushing your camera lens. Do not use brushes with coarse hairs or else your LCD will be scratched.

I used camera brush (SGD=$6.00) and a spectacle cloth (SGD=$1.00) to clean all the thinkpads LCD.

Do not touch any part of your face and later touch your LCD screen and also do not allow anyone to touch your LCD screen. <--Do NOT make these a habit.

For the lcd screen, juste water and a piece of fabric. I always clean my screen like that.
