Almost purchased a ThinkPad X41 Tablet...BUT

#1 Post by draco2527 » Sun Nov 12, 2006 12:16 am

OK, so once a month I stop by a local retailer that carries some of the ThinkPad line, about three weeks ago I stopped and they had their demo X41 tablet for $1,100 EVERY week it gets revised and the price dropped...I figured I wait three weeks, if it is available then for around $600 I'll take it...if not there, then it was not to be...

Friday I stopped by the retailer and it was $652.00!! Like new WITH THE BATTERY, PEN, AC ADAPTER and the other goodies tucked away and wrapped in NEW CONDITION. The tablet looks 9 out of 10 a gem!! Small little problem with the LCD hinge being a little loose...here are the specs:

"Centrino" 1.5
512MB RAM
40GB HD
Fingerprint reader
etc.

So I go to purchase it, and the guy plugs it in...NOTHING..DOA! The unit will be 1 year old (according to the manufacturing date on the box) on 11/15/2006 so it still has 2 Years left on the warranty..no biggy. I tell the salesguy I will buy it AS IS for $400.00; he looked at what the "cost" is on the machine and is listed at $254.00, he informed me that the store is "making a profit and so is he"(discontinued DEMOS are set up like this on this retailer, that is why is good to keep your eyes open..they have a similar toshiba tablet with a 14.1" screen for $600..the cost shows up as $300!) so he can do it if his manager approves...SO FAR SO GOOD!!

Well the manager gave me this BS story:

"If the product is a DEMO, it MUST at least POWER ON before it can be sold". So to clarify, if the tablet was in two pieces but would power on he could still sell it...but since it was DOA he can not...so there went my almost got it X41 T....

According to the manager it will go out next week to service and be returned in about 7 to 10 days BUT the costs of the repair WILL be reflected on the NEW purchase price of the unit..SO I AM TICKED!!

Maybe in a week or two.......

Heyyy, you should just grab it no matter whether it can turn on or not. You can repair that thing by yourself, don't you? 8)

So cheap for a dead X series. emm... ;-)

I don't mind spending the 600+ dollars for a dead X41 tablet because i have got experts inside here who will guide me on how to repair that TP by myself. :D

A tablet... *drool*

Draco2527 stated that the manager said that they CANNOT sell it if it wont turn on.

If it's still under warranty then there shouldn't be any repair costs and therefore no change in price.

I mentioned the same thing, but somehow they go to a "COMPANY REPAIR FACILITY" and they get fixed in house. I think what they might end up adding is the cost of shipping and time to and from the facility....

So i am right when i posted about: you can tell the manager to sell you the thinkpad and you don\'t mind about it being dead...

BUT... some mod deleted my post yesterday when that post is accurate.
