Hi Guys,

I have come accross a nice Mobile Pentium 4 2.3Ghz and want to install it in my IBM Thinkpad R40e, I know the chip has a FSB400 and is the right 478 socket type, but will it be compatiable, I have tried fitting the chip and it seems to stuggle to get the heatsink down on it, also when it boots I get no screen nothing.

Was wondering if anyone else had tried doing this and come accross any issues work-arounds for it.

Many thanks,

Warren

Does the 2.3 GHz chip have a heat spreader on it (i.e. does it have a metal top) or is it green, very light and you can see the black chip bit on the top?

I heard somewhere that R40e's had soldered on chips. Anyway, if you search google for the CPU ID (probably SLxxx) it'll come up with specs. The P4-m chips will be something like 20W/35W heat dissipation. If it's 60ish then it's the wrong P4.
