Has anyone tried to run Vista on R60e(or other) using GMA950

#1 Post by pixel » Mon Nov 13, 2006 5:50 pm

Hi all,
I am considering to buy a R60e laptop.

Configuration is very basic:
Dual Core T2400 1.8Ghz,
1Gb RAM,
80Gb/5400RPM Hard Drive (60Gb/7200RPM if budget allows)
Itegrated Intel GMA950 graphics solution.

Has anyone tried to run Vista on such a machine(or some other models like T60/R60 using integrated Intel GMA950 graphics) with full Aero graphic support ?

What is your impressions, both in terms of overall perfomance and Aero graphics ?
Is such a system responded well under Vista ?

My yet another option is to buy 2nd hand T42 with configuration as following:
M735 1.7Ghz
1 Gb RAM
ATI X7500 (32Mb) - not a "Vista Ready" video card.
60Gb/7200 RPM Hard drive.

The overall configuration is considered to be not "Vista Ready".

Price difference between the two system is about 250$, so currently i strongly consider to go with R60e (thanks to this forum)

Again, i'm interested to hear your impressions(overall performance and Aero graphics) running Vista, in case somebody had tried it on a similar T42 machine.

Thanks.

Hello again pixel, :)

You can see Aero running on GMA950 here:

Thanks.
Aero requires more than 128MB Video RAM and Pixel shader 2.0.
GMA950 meets this minimum spec.

I have been using X60(T2400 1.8GHz/2GBram GMA950) with Vista (pre RTM).
Vista shows Shared RAM is 256MB(from Main RAM) with default Vista WDDM driver.
(It showed 128MB in WinXPPro operation)
Vista WDDM video driver has been improved than WinXP.
As of today,Aero works very well in my X60, without any issue, not so fast, but fast enough.
I like it.
So I recommend you to buy R60e(Vista Premium Ready by Lenovo)
It's worth to buy.
