New hard drive for T30

#1 Post by OddOne » Tue Nov 14, 2006 11:16 am

Ok, I have a T30 and I am getting write errors all the time under windows ansd under linux it will not even Install the os ( getting kernel panic and boot)

It seems the hard drive is failing.

I have the newest controller and bios to date.

My t30 is 1.8ghz with 512 meg Ram. The hard drive is a 40gig most

4800 rpm or so.

Q#1 How much of a noticible increase in pep is a 7200 rpm hard drive going to give me. ?

Would like to hold on to the laptop as long as possible so i want the best upgrade.

Q#2
Do you think it would be best to go with 1gig sticks in each slot for 2gig Total or just stick with the **Max** of the 1 gig listed?

How many people are running 2gigs in there T30s ?

I will be running it docked most of the time.

Thanks for the input.

I had a T30 that came with a 5400-rpm 40Gb drive. I upgraded it to a 7200-rpm 60Gb drive. The pep was noticeable enough that I will never return to anything less than a 7200-rpm drive. I took the drive out of the T30, sold it, and that drive is now running in my T41.

Next step: the as yet unavailable Hitachi 200Gb 7200-rpm drive. Presumably that is a next year event for a Vista laptop. No rush.

i extended my ram to 1gb. it aint worth it.

i put in a 2,6 ghz processor. it aint worth it. fan runs all the time. speed increase is considerably low.

Thats what i was thinking. I think i will wait and see how she does with the new hard drive.

Both of my desktops have 1 gig of ram , I use thes 2 for playing world of warcraft mostly.

I have a duel 1000ghz Abit board pc with 893 megs of ram that my son will be using for Photoshop stuff.

I am going to wait and see how it does.

Thanks
