Adding Fingerprint reader to T43 2669CTO

#1 Post by riishoj » Tue Nov 14, 2006 4:29 pm

Hi.
I recently bought a used T43 without the fingerprint reader.
I have searched the forum to find out whether I’m able to replace the palm rest to a new one with fingerprint reader, but I can’t find an answer?

In case is possible can I use this one?

http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Thinkpad-T40T41 ... otohosting

The T43 is still under warranty, will I loose the warranty is I install the palm rest myself?

Thanks
Best Regards

I read a few posts about adding Fingerprint reader to Thinkpad a couple of days ago (can't remember which thread). I have an impression that the answer is unfortunately "NO". So don't waste your time and money.

If your lappy was born without the fingerprint reader you cannot add it there is no way.

Well there is one but it will implicate getting another motherboard with that capability.

I have searched the forum again, and found this thread.
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... int+reader
According to one of the replys, all the T43 is equipped with the same MB, and therefore I should be able to add the f-reader. Is it true???

Lists the motherboard options for T43/p , there is only 1 type of boards ( they are not distinguished as with or without fingerprint)

The only distinction is either leaded or lead free....

All T43 boards support fingerprint readers.

Now I’m totally confused :D Does this really mean that if I’m able to get a new palm rest with the fingerprint reader, all I need to do is update the bios firmware to one including fingerprint option? Is it difficult or just piece of cake? :D

The T43 BIOS will show the fingerprint option IF it the computer "sees" a palmrest with a fingerprint reader plugged in. No firmware change is necessary to detect the fingerprint reader.
