I've been testing two drives on my new x31, swapping them about once a day (sometimes more frequently). My 7200rpm drive had been running rather hot, with the fan going on every now and then.
Yesterday I took out my 4200rpm and re-installed the 7200. Since then, the fan has been on constantly. This is good because the keyboard is now cool, but bad because the fan is on constantly.
Nothing has changed since the last time I had the 7200 in the machine (well, I have downloaded a few email messages). What might explain the fan's change in behavior?
