Dust in lcd?

#1 Post by whakojacko » Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:35 pm

Ive had my t60p for about 2 months now, and today I noticed a small dark splotch near the bottom. I am relatively confident that these aren't just dead pixels-when the screen in black, this area is noticeably darker, which would seem to indicate that dust has gotten inside the lcd in front of the backlight. Does this seem reasonable and do you have any suggestions?
thanks in advance

Although you do have to be mindful to keep in mind that it could be pressure marks.

It is pretty normal for dust to get into LCDs just because there is no such thing as a totally dust free environment.

I have a cat hair between my screen and backlight. At first I thought it was a crack in the LCD. Upon furher inspection I relized that it was a cat hair. I haven't figured out how to remove it yet, but I am starting to like it.

Oh no! I have this. It's visible even when the computer is totally off. Any luck getting them to remove it for you? Or doing it yourself? It's worse than a dead pixel because it's the size of many pixels all next to each other.

Keep your cats away from your computers.

Yes, it is normal that fine dust particles on the white reflector screen can cause those spots. I have them on my large 19" Samsung and recently my current Thinkpad got a few at the bottom as well.

I changed the old CCFL lights on severea screens and I can tell you that keeping that white plastic reflector dust free is next to impossible (main problem is electrostatic dust).

I had an 15'' LCD on my T43p replaced twice within 8 months by IBM Singapore due to a small about 2mm long particle in LCD.

Now I got a scratch on my LCD and I really hope that some particle or dust would appear again so I could get the LCD replaced with a new one :)

It will not work with IBM Singapore. They will insist you to pay for it. Unless the IBM engineers at the service centre are the ones damaging your thinkpad LCD then you can lodge in a complain about them and demand for a free LCD replacement.
