Sanity check-part 2: What's this?

#1 Post by rkawakami » Wed Nov 15, 2006 3:31 am

Okay, for those of you who saw my first "break with reality" when I asked about a T30 that I thought wasn't a T30 (but really WAS), this one I AM 99.999% SURE is NOT what the seller says it is:

http://www.rkawakami.net/ibm_t2x/what_is_it.jpg

I've been told it's a T23. That it's a 2647-4NU to be exact. Given that the picture doesn't show any T23 that I've ever seen (and I've seen plenty), given that the hinges and trackpoint buttons are not what I see on all of my T23s, can anybody identify what it is?

It's kinda funny in a way... This picture is being used by TWO DIFFERENT eBay sellers that are both saying it's a T23.

Please tell me I haven't lost it...

P.S. The first auction that uses this picture has already ended:

No you haven't.

I'm thinking this one is an X2n based on the following points:

- Wider LCD bezel (T23 is slimmer)
- Left and right mouse buttons aligned with the scroll button (T23's scroll button is located in front of the mouse buttons)
- LCD hinge covers equal in size (T23 has wider hinge cover on left side)
- LCD switch at the center (T23 is at the right side near the hinge)

I'm typing on an X22 now, that's what it is, some kind of X2x.

The bezel size, ThinkLight, suspend switch, hinge width, etc. all line up as on an X2x.

What matters now is which model - X22, X23, X24 all had an IRDA port and the better Pentium III-m CPU (w/512 vs 256 cache), but more importantly, some of the X22-X24 had internal WiFi.

Good luck.

Thanks everybody! I don't know if I'm going to put a bid on this, hoping that the seller actually delivers a T23 and not an X2x. The second seller says he has a 2647-8NU (another favorite system of mine :) ).

Indeed, many sellers are too lazy to take their own photos so they steal from others! By the way, how did you find that out? Do you look at all auctions with the word "T23"?

Looks like it's one of the X-series. X20 perhaps?

Most likely not a 500MHz Celeron X20 (I have owned two of them), whose display is displaced to the right a little more.

BTW, I should receive my second X22 next week!

Shh! You're giving away my secrets!

Actually, yeah I do (look at most all of the T23 auctions). I've constructed a search string looking for variations of how sellers specify T23 systems, both in the title and auction descriptions. It was totally a fluke that I noticed this picture TWICE in a listing of about 80 systems. I had already asked the first seller to confirm he was selling a 2647. He replied that yes it was. The next day I noticed that the picture appeared twice in my search. Thinking it was the same seller who was too lazy to take a different picture, I looked at it. The seller ID and location was different. I emailed the first seller again, asking for a guarantee that I would receive a 2647-4NU as he stated in his email (but never mentioned in the auction) and also pointing out that the picture he was using, was being used by somebody else. He did not acknowledge that fact on his return email, leading me to believe HE stole it from somebody in the first place!

Hey Ray, are you going to put more stuff on your T2x page (http://www.rkawakami.net/ibm_t2x/)?

Yes. Actually I'm planning to put all my photos there for the systems I will be selling shortly.

I have not had too much time to devote to my "hacks" and upgrade projects recently, but they will get there eventually.

Then you sit and wait on your shiny X20 arrival, only to find that it is neither a T20 or a X20. :P But is infact some other model of Thinkpad and the seller just happens to think they're all called T23 :D
760ED All the way.

FEEL THE BURN! From the bottom of that particular laptop... right in the bawsack! eek
