I bought it from ebay for about $20, but only after I did that I learned that 256MB chips come in different flavors (High or Low density).
Can my 770z support this?
Will this 256Mb RAM chip work on a 770z?
This is a high density 256MB, PC-133 chip. I doubt it will work in your 770Z. But you can always check, just by putting it in and trying. It will not damage your laptop to insert the memory and boot it up and see how much memory it shows.
In general, you want to find a low-density 256MB chip -- one that has 8 squarish black modules displaying on each side, instead of 4 long, rectangular ones.
Also, you want PC-66MHz, not PC-133. Apparently, there are certain PC-133 chips that will work okay in the 600 series (they run at half speed (66MHz instead of 133MHz), and it is possible that these particular chips may work similiarly in the 770X/Z. But I don't know how to identify such chips.
Phil.

Thanks for the reply Phil.
I actually have upgraded the CPU to a 500MHz Pentium III, so putting PC-66 RAM is not possible for me. Plus I already have a PC133 128Mb stick in this machine so I am almost confident that the memory speed will not be a problem.
I guess I will recieve the stick next week, and I will give it a try at that time.
@cmarti: Thanks for the offer, but chances are if this stick doesn't work properly, I will probably just put a 128Mb one into it for a while, while I try to sell back this 256mb one. lol
