R31 wireless broken

#1 Post by Charles Krug » Wed Nov 15, 2006 2:58 pm

We'd like to put an old 2657-99U to work -- it would be stationary, but wireless is required. It's running XPP & the original mini-PCI card. A system restore has been done, all patching plus firmware & driver updates, but it will simply not connect. The card has been reseated, the access point confirmed operational & the firewall disabled, but the R31 just scans and scans -- nada. No errors -- just no connection.
Is there something I may be overlooking?
In case it's relevant, the battery will not take any charge, like it's open, but don't want to invest in a replacement.
TIA for any ideas!

I'm not sure about how to solve your problem. I would, however, suggest trying your R31 with another Wi-Fi router to see if it works. Make sure to disable encryption, that the router is transmitting the network's name, and that access filtering is disabled, i.e. access is not restricted to wireless cards with specific mac numbers. Once it works you can enable these security features.

The condition of the battery is not relevant, as I've often used my R31 2656 77U on AC power without a battery, and the wireless card worked just fine.
