Hi.
I'm thinking about removing the keyboard on my R50e to check if the FAN needs cleaning. It may be my idea but I think it is running a little more often than when I purchased my laptop, a few months ago. So I want to see if there's any accumulated dust blocking the air way.
Has anyone done anything like that? Operated on an R series before? Any tips?
What about the IBM notes concerning the screws? Their manual states that after I unscrew them I have to replace them with new ones. True or Myth?

I've successfully completed the above.
Unfortunately (?) the fan was very clean. No blocks of dust or anything. I'm guessing the extra ram module (1GB) and the PCMCIA card, constantly o, may cause it to heat up.
So... plan B. I'll try to get some Arctic Silver and apply it between the cooler and the CPU. Of course this time I'll have to remove a zillion more screws. Anyway. If you have any tips, please let me know. Else, I'll post an update as soon as possible.
P.S.: My Measurements (for comparison):
50C (idle @ 600Mhz)
55C (working @ 600Mhz - working with few aps)
55-60C (working @ 600-1800Mhz - working with more aps)
65-70C (working @ 1800Mhz - games n stuff)

On the R40, the keyboard is held in by two screws and four retaining "lips" (or clips) on the front of the keyboard, which the manual does not specify :@
It said to poke up from the inside, which you can do, but the retaining clips hold it in place pretty well so you need to get a flat edge to pry the keyboard up a bit.
The CPU was pretty easy to get out, just 4 screws and the hinge cover which just snaps out.
