Widescreen T60 - Countdown and Rumors
Widescreen T60 - Countdown and Rumors
With the unavailability of the T60p's with 1600x1200 screens, I had almost purchased a Dell D820. But in the end, I've decided to just stick it out. Now I'm anxiously waiting for the arrival of the new widescreen T-series. It appears to be coming by the end of the month.. so I figured it's about time to start a thread to collect any and all news about its release. I'll start with some links:
Original rumor from Laptop Logic:
http://www.laptoplogic.com/news/detail.php?id=1256
Scheduled Widescreen T-series Workshop at Harvard for 11/30:
http://www.uis.harvard.edu/technology_s ... kshops.php
I also spoke with a Lenovo sales rep today. He says that they just went through sales training for the new widescreen T-series, although he doesn't know exactly when they will be released just yet. But he did say that they are identical in specs to the current T-series, except that they have the widescreen.
Anyone else hear any rumors or more details on this upcoming release?

The Z Series is still the most media-oriented of all the extant lineages of Thinkpads, so I don't think that they will be undercutting themselves with a Widescreen T Series.

I still don't get it, so the widescreen T will basically be a slim version of the Z? I don't see the point of Z's existence once the widescreen T is released.I also spoke with a Lenovo sales rep today. My salesrep recently told me that the new widescreen T60p will be released Dec 1 and will have a 1680x1050 15.4" IPS screen.

In this thread(http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... c&start=30) kjjb0204 says that a T61p with a WUXGA screen is coming spring 2007.
The T60 wides will be announced 11/28. We've pre-ordered with Lenovo and will have stock upon announce. Not a ton of model choices yet, and no WUXGA so far, but it's coming. First models are WXGA and WSXGA. T60P coming in a few months.
Regarding T wides vs Z - T series are much lighter, thinner than Z. I have a Z60M, T60P and X60. The Z stays on the counter because it's so heavy. The T hangs out on my couch, and the X goes to work with me every day and on the plane....

So, the wide T will be the same as the regular T except the screen? The T60 wides will be announced 11/28. We've pre-ordered with Lenovo and will have stock upon announce. Do you agree with my sales rep that one of these models will be a 15.4" IPS WSXGA T60p?kjjb0204 wrote:The T60 wides will be announced 11/28. What you guys talkin about? You have a V5200 with the Z61p. I would rather ask myself why do I have a T60p... The Z serie with the V5200 is cheaper than my T60p and has everything I need with it, even more.SuperNova+ wrote:I will be more than happy if they do that, however I feel the chance is next to zero because the T series is always considered the flagship of the thinkpad.maybe they'll put in a higher end graphics in the Z, like an x1600 or x1700??

what are you talkin about?!? The 15"4 Z61p is 2.69kg vs 2.48kg for the 14"1 T60p. That's a 0.462 pound difference... That's not much of a difference considering the different screen size.

Z61p 15"4: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/ch/products.nsf/ ... ocument#pf
Now, it's only a matter of size...

kjjb0204 my whole school financial status is dependent on me ordering a laptop by DECEMBER 1. How positive are you that the widescreen T will be announced on the 28th. Also I have a quote for a regular 4:3 screen. Do you think since a widescreen costs less to produce then a 4:3 screen that I will be able to switch screens and keep the same quote?
Just need to be positive that the widescreen can be ordered on the 28th

kjjb0204: eager to hear if you have any more to say about this.WPWoodJr wrote:Do you agree with my sales rep that one of these models will be a 15.4" IPS WSXGA T60p?kjjb0204 wrote:The T60 wides will be announced 11/28. will there be a WSXGA T60p on 12/1? or no wide T60p's of any kind until next year?
WPWoodJr wrote:Kjjb0204, are they announcing a widescreen "P" model too?kjjb0204 wrote:Hi. Yes, there are 15.4 wsxga+ models as well as wxga models, some with core 2 duo, some with core duo.
General Announce date is 11/28 for sure. You'll be able to see them on the announcement letters database.
Eventually, but the initial models will be T60 with WXGA or WSXGA+.

Sorry to be such a pain, but can you confirm if it will be an IPS/Flexview screen? Or will it be the same 1680x1050 screen as on the Z61m?kjjb0204 wrote:I only know of the 15.4 wides. Haven't seen or heard anything about a 14 wide.
Sorry, Yes, there will be a T60P WSXGA+ with the 256mb ATI FireGL, but I was really thinking of a T60P with the coveted WUXGA. Those won't be out just yet.
